Learning Beyond the Classroom
On the 23rd of May 2025, our students had the unique opportunity to visit the Ruzibazi Hydroelectric Power Station, located in the scenic Rumonge Province. The educational trip was both enriching and inspiring, offering students firsthand insight into the production of clean energy and the role of hydroelectric power in national development.
Located in the scenic landscapes of southern Burundi, the Ruzibazi station stands as one of the country’s key infrastructure projects for sustainable energy. During the tour, students learned about how hydroelectric power is generated—from the collection of water from the Ruzibazi River, to the operation of turbines and generators, and finally to the distribution of electricity to surrounding communities.
Guided by knowledgeable engineers and staff, the students had the chance to ask questions, observe the different components of the facility up close, and better understand the science and engineering behind energy production. The visit also highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and the benefits of investing in renewable energy sources.
This educational trip not only enriched students’ understanding of their classroom lessons in science and geography, but also inspired many to think about future careers in engineering, energy, and environmental management.
We are grateful to the team at Ruzibazi Hydroelectric Power Station for their warm welcome and informative presentations. It was a valuable experience that will remain in the minds of our students for years to come.
